It's a safe bet to say that every company includes a raft, paddles, personal floatation device, guide, and food on all trips, but there are odds and ends you may want to purchase yourself. Or perhaps you are looking to do a private rafting trip, but you don't have any equipment. Don't worry, you have a plethora of options. In most rafting towns there is at least one river store. Some are tiny and only offer odds and ends such as sunscreen, visors, and paddle jackets, while larger stores sell everything from hardshell kayaks to PFDs to wetsuits. The people who work at these small-town river shops tend to be extremely knowledgeable about their gear and will willingly answer any questions you might have.

There are also many places online you can get gear, and sometimes find great deals too.

Pacific River Supply - Founded in 1970 by Jim Cassidy, a world-class river guide, this raft and inflatable kayak distributer has an excellent online store.

REI - Usually a safe bet for clothes and nick-knacks, but the paddling sections are often limited to sea kayaking with very little rafting gear or accessories.

River Connection - Find equipment, apparel and accessories for whitewater river rafting, kayaking, camping and fishing. Also provides rescue gear and boat repair information.

River Store in Coloma-Lotus is the locals' favorite. They have a huge selection of kayaks, gear, and accessories. The folks who work there are very helpful and full of useful information and tips.

Sierra Outdoor Center in Auburn and Coloma offer kayaks and equipment for river runners with a new online store.

Sierra South is Kernville's outdoor and river store. The store has been in operation for many years and has a great selection of gear, rafts, and accessories, as well as classes and roll sessions.

Sierra Trading Post - Great online store as well as a large warehouse/ outlet in Reno, NV.

Sonoma Outfitters - With selections from nearly every outdoor clothing and equipment manufacturer, this online store is sure to have what you need.

Stitches 'N Stuff makes all the rafting accessories you might need for an overnight trip. Drop bags, cam straps, rafting floors, and other sorts of raft accessories are available . The gear is very well-made and they even do custom designs.
